This day commemorates the massacres of innocent Assyrian civilians by reason only of their ethnicity and adherence to Christianity. Their plight can be paralleled in many respects with that of the Greeks of Northern Epirus.
In his address, Panepirotic Federation of Australia Secretary, Kostas Kalymnios, outlined the rocky road traversed by the Northern Epirots to liberty, as well as the challenges facing them today. Despite these, they persevere an it is this message of hope and triumph over adveristy that will hopefully inspire the belaugured Assyrians of Iraq to endure their persecution as temporary and not a permanent phenomenon.

The Panepirotic Federation of Australia also assisted in the curating of a photographic exhibition by Theodoris Bezianis, of the history of Northern Epirus at the Grand Saray Hotel in Ioannina. This remarkable exhibition is a testamanent to the passion of Theodoris Bezianis, a Northern Epirot schoolteacher, businessman and activist. Mr Bezianis was one of the five members of OMONOIA who were arrested by the Albanian government on trumped up charges of treason in 1994. Mr Bezianis also publishes a newspaper in Albania in which he has included excerpts of the P.F.A's website.

P.F.A Secretary Kostas Kalymnios commends Mr Theodoris Bezianis upon the commencement of his photographic exhibition on the history of Northern Epirus.
The P.FA also met with the popular Epirote folk singer Savas Siatras. Mr Siatras, who is featured regularly on ERT and other Greek television channels, is a regular visitor to Australia and has a passionate interest in the communities of Epirotes Abroad. P.F.A PRESS RELEASE
